Give Me 5%: Education and Access for Women in Federal Contracts
KC-CWBO is joining with WIPP (Women Impacting Public Policy) to help increase the number of vendors that are woman-owned, who successfully gain contracts with the federal government. Called 'Give Me Five,' the campaign name is referring to the fact the women business owners are missing out on millions and millions of dollars -- the federal government currenlty only spends about 3.5% of OUR taxpayer dollars with women business owners. One obstacle is that apparently the decision makers in government don't believe we are out here and are able to do business at that level! Keep in mind, this includes as primary contractors as well as subcontractors/suppliers to the primes. Therefore, WIPP has identified one area for women business owners to take action to correct this disparity. The campaign is funded by American Express Open, and it is one step in getting woman-owned companies counted as 'able and ready' to do business with the government.
