Congratulations to these KC-CWBO members! No other organization has a higher percentage of acclaimed and energetic members.

Denise Farris (Farris Law Firm) recently announced the opening of a 2nd location! While her office in Stilwell, KS remains open, her primary office is now: 1600 Genessee, Suite 433, KCMO 64102. 816-842-0800.

Jeanne Johnson (Server Centric Consulting) has been selected by Microsoft to create intellectual property for them by authoring technical white papers; Server Centric will be allowed to take credit for their work by putting their logo on the document; and is one of only two companies ever Microsoft has engaged in this way. Simply wow!

Gail Worth (Gail’s Harley Davidson) was a guest speaker for the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce this summer. Also, Gail was featured on the cover of the KC STAR magazine this summer!

Teri Rogers (Take2) has started a brand new company, Back Alley Films. This company has offices in KC and Los Angeles, and is oriented toward film and new media. Check out the website, www.backalleyfilms.com

Colleen Ellis (JM Neil) is now 100% owner of her company, having recently bought out her partners. A toast to Colleen!

Rosie Privitera-Biondo (Mark One Electric) was honored by the Labor Management Council of Greater KC with the  “Outstanding Service” award. Quite an honor for any business owner! And, the YMCA of Greater KC also recently recognized Rosie with the “Hearts of Gold” award for ‘empowering women.’

Lynette Beck Burkhart (WEB Contracting) has landed a big one: the Veterans Administration has selected WEB Contracting for a large renovation project at the Leavenworth VA.

KC-CWBO was recently mentioned in the Kansas City Star Business Section, in an article titled “Small Firms Sound Off on Federal Rules.” Joyce Smith of the Star attended a recent meeting of the SBA’s Small Business Regulatory Fairness Board that met in Kansas City, hearing concerns from small businesses. Nancy Zurbuchen was there representing KC-CWBO, and was able to bring two of our members’ issues to the board, as they do business with the federal government.

Congratulations to our member Kathryn McDaniel (ColorMark Printing) on being selected a "Top Kansas City Business" for 2008 by Kansas City Business Magazine. She is most deserving.

Maria Kunstadter (The Smile Salon and Buying Influence) was recently on the cover of KC Small Business (formerly Small Business Monthly) and also prominently featured in an article.

Jeri Bartunek (Bartunek Technology Group) was recently honored as NAWBO-Kansas City chapter’s Member of the Year, 2008. Fab-u-lous – kudos for work well done.

Our local affirmative action guru, Denise Farris (Farris Law Firm) appeared in the July-August issue of Flourish! Magazine. She wrote an article called Show Me the Money, the article gives details about the what/why/how of gaining M/WBE certification.

Kelly Scanlon (KC Small Business) was recently inducted into the NAWBO National Board of Directors at their annual meeting in Phoenix. Congrats for being on a national board! Great recognition.

Teri Rogers (Take Two) was the keynote speaker at Polsinelli’s prestigious ‘Entrepreneur Speakers Program,’ this summer

Six KC-CWBO members were listed in the “Smart Companies to Watch” edition of KC Small Business magazine.  They include, Jeri Bartunek (Bartunek Technology Group), Kathryn McDaniel (Colormark Inc.), Jeanette Prenger (ECCO Select), Lea-Ann Germinder (Germinder & Associates), Maria Kunstadter (The Smile Salon), and Jody Barrett (Unchained Creative). Congratulations!

Both Nancy Zurbuchen (Motional Media) and Denise Farris (Farris Law Firm) were featured in the August 8th issue of the Kansas City Business Journal for their reputation and recent public policy accomplishments. They were noted specifically for their ability to effectively “flex more political muscle.” Of note are their recent work with the State of KS in connection with Gov. Sebelius' executive order, which established a minority and woman-owner vendor program, and their collaboration with Rep. Denise Moore and Sen. Sam Brownback concerning the women procurement rule, a SBA proposed rule.

Kathryn McDaniel, President of Colormark, Inc., was recently selected a “Top Kansas City Business” by Kansas City Business Journal and featured in a September article about her company’s achievement and sustainability initiative. Colormark is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and has adopted many ‘green’ practices in the workplace. McDaniel is very deserving of this recent recognition.

Four of the KC-CWBO members were recognized by Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) for their outstanding dedication and achievements in both business and public policy advocacy. Nancy Zurbuchen and Denise Farris both received the “Dedication Award to Public Policy” for their commitment to public policy advocacy through the Kansas City Instant Impact Team. Kathy Bennett, President of Bennett Packaging, was named a “Woman to Watch” for serving as an industry leader, creating innovative and extraordinary accomplishments in her business and for the women's business community.
